Continuing Care
Staying in shape!
Once our experts get your mouth and smile to where you’d like it to be, is that it? NO! It’s just like the rest of your body–it doesn’t stay in tip-top shape all by itself. What it means is that you have to keep on taking care of your mouth in order to maintain that healthy state.
When we give you that comprehensive examination, we plan on how it needs to be cared for in order to maintain it. It’s as simple as that! We call this continuing care, which is our way of talking maintenance. We’ll discuss with you how often we recommend that you be examined, how frequently you need x-rays, and how often and what type of cleaning that’s just right for you. We’ll also teach you how to properly care for your mouth and help you be successful at it. Everybody’s issues are unique, so we individualize this part for you.
At every continuing care appointment, we’ll check over your teeth and gums very carefully. We also give you a very thorough soft tissue exam, which can uncover a whole spectrum of potential problems: from canker sores and fever blisters to more systemic diseases, such as diabetes, leukemia, autoimmune disorders, or even oral cancer. Once again, we leave no stone unturned! We’ll also screen your blood pressure and pulse, to make sure there aren’t problems there either. When you leave your appointment, you’ll know that your mouth is in great shape and you were well cared for. You can count on that!
