Meet the Team
“By nature, I’m a very thorough and detail-oriented person. These qualities have served me well– they allow me to be a very comprehensive and focused dentist.
While I’ve heard it said that people can’t envision ever choosing dentistry as a career; for me, it’s a match made in heaven! I absolutely LOVE my chosen profession and can’t even imagine ever doing anything else.”
A SOLID EDUCATION serves as a foundation for a life dedicated to service.
“I’m extremely grateful for the education I’ve received. I am also fortunate to have graduated from such excellent schools. It gives my patients the confidence that they are in good hands and will get the high quality dental care that they deserve.”
- Graduate: Bachelor of General Science, University of Iowa Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) University of Iowa College of Dentistry.
CONTINUING EDUCATION shows a dedication to keeping up with the profession and a commitment to being the best that one can be.
“My education didn’t end when I graduated. It actually was just the beginning. Every year since I’ve graduated, I’ve taken advanced courses and seminars so I can provide you with the latest sound materials, techniques, and treatments.”
- Continuing education: TMJ Diagnosis and Treatment, Occlusion, Equilbration, Cosmetic Dentistry, Dental Implant Restorations, Orthodontics, Prosthodontics, and Materials.
PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIPS provide an opportunity to exchange ideas and information with colleagues.
“Through my membership and participation in professional organizations, I have an opportunity to share and learn from my peers. This creates an incredible ‘brain trust’ from which I can tap into to provide you with the best quality care and service.”
- Member: American Dental Association, Missouri Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, American Equilibration Society, Chicago Dental Society, Greater Kansas City Dental Society.
CARING VOLUNTEER who gives back to the community.
“I grew up with the life ethic of ‘it’s better to give than to receive’. Helping others; however done, is the ultimate service to your fellow man.”
- Volunteer: City Union Mission dentist
- (former) Platte County Optimist Club
- Coordinator: Give Kids a Smile
In my spare time, I stay active doing yoga, and playing with my twins, Katie & Kyle, who were born in 2007. My husband John and I, both Iowans, visit our large extended families whenever possible. With the balance of my spare time I like to flower garden and read.
I’m a people person who likes to have a great time and loves conversation. Joining Dr. McClaflin’s team in April of 2010 has been a true blessing. Having worked in both the clinical and business side of the dental office has given me a unique perspective of how an office truly works. My goal is to help you have a great experience while in our office. I’m here for you!! I’ll help you understand your dental insurance, your time and cost commitments, and just what will happen at your appointment. One of my strengths is really understanding insurance companies well and what they do and don’t cover. I’ll work for you to help you get the most out of your insurance benefits. I’ll also work hard to help you get what’s best for you: we don’t want you to compromise your care because of cost or time.
When I am not at the office, I enjoy my family and my dog; my husband Joey is a teacher, my son Trey is a 5th grader and we are expecting a baby girl spring of 2015. Trey plays competitive baseball and we keep extremely busy. Having a very large family there is always something to do, I have 4 brothers and 4 sisters and an army of nieces and nephews who are all very special to me. We enjoy cheering on the Richmond Spartans as well as the St. Louis Cardinals.
I joined Dr. McClaflins’ team in May of 2005. I graduated from Southern Illinois University in 1979. I’ve been a registered dental hygienist since then and I love what I do! I enjoy working with patients and educating them on their preventive dental care. I want my patients to have the same experience that I would want to have. I’ve been a hygienist for many years and have worked in many offices, but I’ve got to say that you will not meet a better dentist nor a more sincere person than Dr. McClaflin.
When I’m not working, I have a jewelry business “Simply Be Dazzling” to touch my creative side. I have many hobbies: running, biking, and volunteering, to name just a few. I also have two grown children: Michael, who graduated from KU in 2010 and Molly, who graduated from the University of Arkansas in 2010. They both live in the area, so I am fortunate to still spend time with them. In September of 2012 I married Douglas Maskill.
I’m Kishia, Dr. McClaflin’s dental assistant. I have been a part of the Mac team since June 2004. I’ve been a practicing dental assistant since 1996 after graduating from Concorde Career Institute. I truly enjoy what I do every day, especially taking the fear out of dentistry, by just taking the time to explain treatment and just caring and respecting those who have fear. I also love working with children. In my dental past, I’ve worked with a pediatric practice, and I will admit, I’m a kid at heart. When I’m not helping with patients and the practice, I enjoy spending my time with my son Pete. He is is a member of the football team at Truman State in Kirksville, MO. I am his number one fan. I also love volunteering in the community and helping the underdog. I love cooking and sharing recipes, so bring some of your favorites. I can’t wait to meet you!!
